West New York 2012 Property Taxes are set to increase. West New York recently introduced its 2012 Temporary Budget. Compare this to the 2011 Temporary Budget and you’ll notice that spending has increased from $14,953,650 to $15,209,200, an increase of 1.7% or $225,550. This is only the temporary budget until the actual budget is approved. We can only wonder what the increase in the actual budget will be. I guess all the patronage jobs for Acosta's family and the mismanagement of the Roque Administration will bankrupt homeowners in West New York. Do you need more reasons to support the recall...

WEST NEW YORK The coordinator of the town’s Urban Enterprise Zone, Alain Gomez, was fired yesterday after being accused of forging a commissioner’s signature on vacation paperwork, officials said.

Gomez, 36, said the termination letter “was all lies,” denying that he forged the signature of Commissioner FiorD’Aliza Frias, the director of the UEZ department. Gomez also said he never received a copy of the letter.

_WEST NEW YORK The Department of Community Affairs is investigating alleged building code violations at properties owned by Mayor Felix Roque, Chief of Staff Silvio Acosta and Commissioner Ruben Vargas, the state agency confirmed.

The DCA declined to say what it’s looking into, but a source with knowledge of the properties told The Jersey Journal the state became involved because of the inherent conflicts of interest when a municipality issues fines to municipal officials.

The state Office of Regulatory Affairs, a subdivision of the Division of Codes and Standards, has taken town files on five properties owned by the three city officials.

The properties under scrutiny are two homes on Lincoln Place, one each owned by Roque and Acosta; a property on 67th Street owned by Vargas’ wife, Carmen; and two Grant Place properties, one owned by Vargas and the other owned by Acosta.

“This is all part of a smear campaign,” Roque said, stating that he feels the investigation was launched by town employees who worked for former Mayor Sal Vega.

Brian Silvany, a former supporter of Mayor Roque writes:

The topic I want to discuss: How politicians make all promises to get elected into office as mayor, governor, and president.
Here I will give you an example from December 2009. This man is a pain management doctor who said he wanted to throw his hat into the ring for mayor. So I wrote this doctor a personal letter and I said if you run for mayor of West New York, I will vote for you. Well, in May of 2010 he was voted into office as the new mayor of West New York. So at the time he seemed to be a great person making all promises to be mayor.

Well, on Nov. 28, 2011, I called his cellphone number to ask him a question and his answer to me was: "Who is Brian Silvani? How did you get my cell phone number?" Well, let me tell you something. Boy was I wrong about this man making a good mayor of West New York, because he lied right there on the spot, saying he would keep all of his promises he made. One of his promises he broke was he raised property taxes. He lied about the streets of West New York that are still dirty. You go out in the morning and on Bergenline Avenue there are crack bags on the sidewalks.

I was very disappointed about this man lying to me and saying he was my friend and if I needed anything just call him up. I can't write to his office at City Hall because his secretary intercepts my letters before the mayor sees my letters.
